Dreamstar Custom Homes Holds Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate "Build for the Cure"

West Palm Beach, Fla. — Dreamstar Custom Homes and its suppliers and subcontractors are in the midst of raising thousands of dollars to benefit the South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. At a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on February 25 at Ibis Golf & Country Club, Dreamstar founder Brett Handler acknowledged all of the companies and people who are participating in "Build for the Cure." Thus far, they've raised more than $40,000 to benefit the local Komen organization.

"It's about the camaraderie, how everyone came together to make this happen," said Handler.

Stephen J. LoGiudice, general manager of Ibis Golf & Country Club, which generously catered the affair, opened the ceremony by introducing the speakers. Anita Holmes, executive director, Komen South Florida Affiliate, expressed her gratitude to Dreamstar for heading the project. Anthony Lomangino, CEO of Southern Waste Systems, spoke about his experience as a male survivor of breast cancer.

"It happens to men more than anybody realizes," Lomangino said. "But there's a great life after cancer."

Another breast cancer survivor, Betsy Golub, also spoke about the importance of the project and thanked Dreamstar and the Byrnes. Hard hat tours followed.

Last December, Dreamstar broke ground on a 6,187 square foot house in the Bent Creek Development of Ibis. To raise money for Komen, Handler asked his subcontractors and suppliers to decrease their bids with the difference between the original bid and the reduced fee donated to Komen. Handler expects the $40,000 raised thus far to increase even more with additional donations expected. Every dollar reduced from their bids will go directly to Build for the Cure. William and Lisa Byrnes, who purchased the home, agreed to allow Dreamstar to dedicate their future residence as the 2010 Build for the Cure benefit home.

This elegant Tuscany-style custom built home will feature designer finishes throughout and will include many energy efficient features that Handler, a Certified Green Professional, has adopted as a philosophy. The one-story home will include three bedrooms, four baths, an office, living, dining and family rooms, a gourmet kitchen and a wine cellar and bar. Being situated with a view of the lake and three fairways makes this home even more appealing. The expected completion is mid-summer 2010, at which time a kick-off event will be held featuring tours, appetizers, drinks, a silent auction and raffle. Tickets will be sold for additional tours on subsequent weekends. All proceeds will benefit The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Homebuilder's Eco-Friendly Home is "Thinking PINK and GREEN" with the Potential of Raising $30,000 with Build for the Cure

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. — At a time when many charities are suffering, Brett Handler hopes that the South Florida building community can band together. Dreamstar Custom Homes in Palm Beach Gardens, founded by Handler, is building a spacious, designer home that not only will impress its owners, but it also will raise thousands of dollars for The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. Handler hopes to raise at least $30,000 for the nonprofit organization through a program called "Build for the Cure."

"As a community we are able to join together to make a sizable donation to a program that is so important," said Handler. "Many of our sub-contractors have ties to Komen.  Our connection is my wife Chris, whose mother lost her battle to breast cancer when Chris was only 4 years old. So obviously we are passionate about helping Komen."

Executive Director Anita Holmes of the Komen South Florida Affiliate added, "The South Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is very pleased to partner with Dreamstar Custom Homes on a most unique fundraising effort. 'Build for the Cure' has the potential to raise substantial funds for the many programs in our service area. It also will afford us the opportunity to attract additional community support that will help to expand our database of supporters and attract new volunteers to our organization. This is a very creative project and it is an honor to be affiliated with such a prestigious builder."

"William and Lisa Byrnes, who purchased the home, have so kindly permitted Dreamstar Custom Homes to dedicate their future residence as the 2010 Build for the Cure benefit home," Handler said. "The Byrnes are repeat clients for Dreamstar and are tickled pink with the idea that monies generated from the sub and suppliers of their home will directly benefit the local Komen organization. In addition to donating the use of their home for charity, they have taken the initiative to build 'green,' therefore creating a lighter footprint on our environment."

Handler recently started construction on the 6,187 square foot house, located on Bent Creek at Bay Pointe in Ibis Golf and Country Club, a high-end luxury community in West Palm Beach.
